Pokemon Go crashes on iOS and Android devices after an update

New updates are added at the bottom of this story…….

The original story (posted August 26, 2018) is as follows:

There have been new reports that users of the popular Pokemon Go gaming app are facing major issues after the latest update released for the iOS platform.

Complainants say the app crashes on startup or as soon as it’s launched. There are also other crash related use cases that users are reporting.

Take a look at some of the complaints:

Has anyone who updated #PokemonGo today had problems opening the app? I try to open it, and it gets stuck before it can load (usually around 10% of load).

HeyPokemonGoAppNianticHelp A new update for Pokémon Go is causing the app to crash immediately upon opening it. Many people suffer from this problem. Please fix this soon. # Pokemon Go

While Niantic has yet to say anything about the issue (through their social media channels at least), the vast majority of complainants have confirmed that they can fix the crash by uninstalling/deleting the app and then reinstalling it.

It happened on my iPhone 6 with iOS 11.4.1. Reinstalling the app fixed the issue.

I had to delete the game and re-download it. No problems since then

Did you uninstall and reinstall? This seems to do the trick for me

Delete the app and reinstall, just the thing that fixed it for me

I had to take the delete/reinstall process one step further. delete, turn off iphone, restart it, reinstall. worked for me!

After updating my app about an hour ago, my app crashes:

When trying to open the app (reinstalled and problem fixed)

When logging in (fixed issue with restarting the app)

When interacting with the gym (resolve the problem)

when clicking on friends list (restart didn’t help)

So there you go. If you are also facing similar crash issues on your iOS device (no reports yet from Android users), now you know what to do.

Let us know if the problem persists even after trying this workaround. In the meantime, we’re keeping a tab on the matter, and will update the story when there’s any worthwhile development.

Update 1 (27 August 2018)

Niantic has confirmed that they are aware of the crash issue with version 1.85.4 of the app on iOS.

Although the company did not say when the issue would be fixed, it is asking users to reinstall the app, a solution that most complainants confirmed works for them.

Update 2 (May 13, 2022)

01:48 PM (IST): Many players are reporting now (1And the 2And the 3And the 4And the 5And the 6And the 7And the 8And the 9) that Pokemon Go keeps crashing after the latest update.

Fortunately, Niantic support has it He confessed They said they are currently investigating it. However, they did not provide any expected arrival time for a fix.

Update 3 (November 22, 2022)

09:56 AM (India time): Several Pokemon Go players have reported a persistent crashing issue after the latest update (both are on android And the iOS). The problem can occur during battles, menus or boot.

Has anyone else’s game been crashing a lot in the past few days?

The Pokemon game keeps crashing and I’m trying to figure out if this is just my phone or if other players are having this problem?

Mid Battle Crash Game

I’ve been playing my battles for the day and the game keeps crashing randomly on everyone else’s battles that have this problem. I’ve never had a POGO crash before :/ I’m on a pixel 5 running the latest Android version

The Niantic team is already aware of the issue and working to fix it, but there is no ETA yet.

Trainers, we’re investigating higher than normal crash rates in the battle-related aspects of Pokémon GO. We apologize for the inconvenience and will update again once the issue is resolved.
