BOISE, Idaho, Nov. 15, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Micron Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: MU) announced today that Low Power Mobile Memory 5X (LPDDR5X) continues to gain traction in the market by validating its mobile memory for Qualcomm Technologies’ latest mobile platform for its flagship smartphones, the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2. Notably, Micron’s LPDDR5X is integrated into the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 reference designs, allowing it to serve as a prime example of the benefits OEMs will see when designing their smartphones with this chipset. Micron is also shipping LPDDR5X into mass production, which will enable the world’s first smartphones with LPDDR5X at top speeds.
Designed for high-end, leading-edge smartphones, Micron’s latest LPDDR5X delivers maximum speeds of up to 8.533 Gbps (Gigabits per second), which is up to 33% faster than previous generation LPDDR5.1 This increased speed, up from 7.5 Gbps Micron support last fallEnhances mobile experiences with high-bandwidth and data-demanding high-performance memory.
“As the unsung hero of smartphone innovation, fast mobile memory is critical to delivering on the promise of 5G, artificial intelligence and the vast amounts of data flowing through smartphones today,” said Raj Talluri, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Micron’s Mobile. work unit. “Global shipping and mass production of our LPPDR5X at extreme speeds are enabling the mobile ecosystem to invent a new generation of emerging devices and applications that we cannot yet imagine.”
Micron led the semiconductor industry in sampling and validating LPDDR5X, the fastest and most advanced flash memory, in November of last year on the first 1α (1-alpha) node to market. With this latest milestone, the company continues to accelerate market adoption of LPDDR5X and solidify its product innovation and leadership in the mobile ecosystem, following industry first launches of LPDDR5And the 1α LPDDR4X-basedAnd the 176 NAND layers based on UFS 3.1 And the uMCP5 solutions.
“Fast and powerful memory is critical to unlocking the fast, light connectivity, dynamic experiences, and revolutionary performance that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 promises,” said Ziad Asghar, Vice President of Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.. Gbps, brings the unprecedented speeds and power efficiency that our chipsets demand.”
These new levels of memory performance are increasingly important in feeding massive amounts of data to the heterogeneous multiprocessing engines built into today’s complex smartphone processors. As mobile workloads become increasingly complex, these advanced chipsets rely on high data rates to ensure seamless multitasking across applications and to enable artificial intelligence (AI) inference, augmented and virtual reality, immersive graphics, and high-resolution camera use cases such as night mode and portrait mode.
