Use Tracker Detect on Android to search for AirTags

The Detection Tracker The app, available on the Google Play Store for free, lets you use your Android device to find and track items that work with Apple’s Find My network, like AirTags, and are separated from their owner for at least 15 minutes. No Apple ID account required.

After downloading Tracker Detect, turn on Bluetooth, open the application, agree to the terms and conditions, then click the blue button Survey button to search for nearby items. If this is your first time using Tracker Detect, you will be prompted to give the app access to Bluetooth, which it needs to find any AirTags.

It will scan your Android device for up to a minute, and if it finds an AirTag near you, it will show as “Unknown Airtag”. If you do not find anything, you can try to scan again, especially since the tracker must be separated from its owner for at least 15 minutes to appear.

What to do if you find that AirTag is tracking you

If Tracker Detect notices an AirTag that has been following you for at least 10 minutes, the app will then allow you to play a sound from the AirTag so that you can find the physical tracker more easily.

If you find AirTag, it’s up to you on how you want to proceed. If you have AirTag by mistake, which means it was not used to follow you, and “Lost Mode” is enabled, you can tap and hold your NFC-compatible Android device on the white side of the tag to get more information on how to set it back.

However, if AirTag is being used to track you, you can also view the serial number by tapping on it with your phone, which can be useful if you are considering contacting law enforcement and asking for proof of identity of the person who might be stalking you. You can also unscrew the back cover and look inside the AirTag to find the serial number.

How to disable AirTag

If you want to close AirTag and stop if you are being tracked, Tracker Detect will provide a brief but brief summary of how to disable it:

  1. Press down on the stainless steel backing of the AirTag.
  2. Rotate the cap counterclockwise until it stops.
  3. Release your fingers and the cap will come off.
  4. Remove the button cell battery.

Removing the battery will notify the owner that AirTag is disabled, so beware.

Unfortunately, Tracker Detect lacks some of the existing features Originally available on iPhone – Most importantly, automatic background scans. In Tracker Detect, you have to manually search for AirTags each time, which can be a nuisance if you’re constantly worried about being tracked.

In future updates, Apple may consider adding more features to the Android app, but until then, Tracker Detect can help provide some relief if you’re being tracked by AirTag.
