[Updated] Google Assistant stuck in dark mode after Android 13 stable update even with light theme enabled

Google Assistant stuck in dark mode after Android 13 stable update

New updates are added at the bottom of this story…….

The original story (published on August 19, 2022) is as follows:

Google Assistant is Google’s voice assistant just like Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri. It is available on multiple devices including Android smartphones, Android TV, Google Nest, etc.

But recently, Google Assistant automatically switches to dark mode for many Google Pixel users after Android 13 stable update (1And the 2And the 3). The problem persists even when the light theme is enabled on the devices.

Users find it quite unusual that Google Assistant only switches to dark mode when everything else is light in character. We have added two issue reports below for your reference:

Over the past month, maybe more, I’ve noticed that my Google Assistant is always black as if it’s in dark mode. Is this a feature or a bug?

The issues with the stable update of Android 13 are not really a surprise. We have seen recently Haptic feedback on Gboard works intermittently After the update.

However, the problem of Google Assistant being stuck in dark mode is not entirely new. He was also there during beta testing days.

Yes, I noticed that since last week on my S22 Ultra on Android 13 beta I first thought it was beta, but then I saw it on Pixel too

although The issue was passed to the development team during beta testingIt appears that it has not been fixed in the stable version. The Google Issue Tracker error status still shows as “Set”.

However, there is no official word from Google regarding when the issue will be addressed. Unfortunately, we also did not come up with a workaround that can help deal with the problem temporarily.

Hopefully the Google Assistant stuck in dark mode issue will be fixed soon, or at least it’s officially acknowledged.

We will monitor further developments and update this article accordingly. In the meantime, check out our website Google Pixel Android 13 Troubleshooter For more ideas on other issues.

Update 2 (November 1, 2022)

01:11 PM (Indochina time): Google Support has confirmed that Google Assistant isn’t stuck in dark mode, but it’s an intentional behavior. This means that the Google Assistant lighting mode is no longer available. This is the full statement:

Google Assistant regularly tries to get new ideas to see what works best and what could work best. This includes ways to make our products appear consistent across our product ecosystem.

To provide a more informative visual experience across all your devices, including the Pixel Watch and Google TV, when you interact with Assistant on mobile, Lighting mode is no longer available – it will now display a dark theme, even if the dark theme is turned off in your phone settings.
