For starters, Samsung fans should be especially pumped, because Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra It’s set to offer a uniquely overclocked version of the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which should make Samsung’s flagship more powerful (at least on paper) than other Android phones powered by the same chip.

But things are getting interesting because the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered Galaxy S23 will not only be a huge improvement over older Exynos and Qualcomm chips, but designed to match Apple’s A15 Bionic used in iPhone 14 And the iPhone 13 Pro! This may not seem like anything special since Apple’s A16 Bionic still sits comfortably at the top of the food chain when it comes to overall performance, but the truth is that Qualcomm’s previous processors barely managed to reach the performance level of Apple’s three-year-old chips.
- With 1,465 single-cores and 5,180 multi-cores, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is now set to match/exceed Apple’s flagship vanilla iPhone for the first time in history.
- With 1,725 single-core and 4,635 multi-core, Apple’s A15 Bionic from the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 may lag slightly behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the Galaxy S23.
- For the record, the A16 Bionic chip that powers the iPhone 14 Pro has a single-core score of 1,875 and a multi-core score of 5,375, putting it at the top of the food chain.
It’s worth noting that while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 looks as powerful as the A15 chip, on top of being much older, Apple’s processor gets that much power while being manufactured on TSMC’s 5nm process. On the other hand, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is built according to TSMC’s 4nm standard. So, in theory, once Apple is ready to shift to a new gear (be it 4nm or 3nm), the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro will likely leave the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the dust.
Galaxy S22 “S”? Samsung is taking a conservative approach, like Apple, to upgrading the Galaxy S23 (and that’s cool!)

The Galaxy S23 ships will hardly look different from its predecessors, but that’s not a problem at all!
Instead of focusing on flashy new designs and bells and whistles, the South Korean company seems to be focusing on one thing, which is to make the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra versions better than their Galaxy S22 counterparts, which are already some of the best Android phones out there.
With better screens, designs, cameras and even software support, a reliable processor across all models and geographies was exactly what Samsung’s flagship phones were missing to reach peak performance!
Honestly, it’s a pure mystery why Samsung took so long to move away from using Exynos chips for its flagship phones sold in some regions of the world. On the other hand, Qualcomm has also taken forever to give us an Apple chip with the promise of great power and efficiency. But we’re almost done now!
Thanks to Samsung’s commitment to using Snapdragon chips exclusively, Qualcomm doing great with the new 8 Gen 2, and Apple’s bizarre decision to reuse the A15 Bionic chip last year for vanilla iPhone 14 models, it now looks like the Galaxy S23 will be at least as powerful as the iPhone 14 — if It couldn’t be more capable, making Android history!
The competition in 2023 will be tough; Xiaomi, Google and Apple phones will try to give Samsung a hard time

In the end, it should be noted that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is not intended for Samsung. In fact, plenty of other Android phone makers will already be using a game-changing Qualcomm chip in their flagship phones!
As a matter of fact, the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phones were announced on November 22, and they are the new Vivo phones X90, X90 Pro and X90 Pro +. These are currently only available in China and are expected to debut globally in 2-3 months (if Vivo’s X80 launch strategy is repeated).
